The solenoid uses a small ignition switch current to mechanically switch the heavy current to the starter motor. If you were getting a click, it normally means the solenoid is operating but may have poor switching connectivity on the high current side. if it happens again, I would change the starter or solenoid. 1) Windscreen fluid froze in the reservoir and pump. 2) I pressed (and held) the washer button but the pump motor could not move. 3) The pump drew too much current and blew the fuse. Replacing the fuse fixed my problem. (It wasn't on a cee'd though.) So, this could explain why the fuse blew, if that is the cause of the problem.
